Drivers to take gamble in Vegas today

The Sprint Cup Series is racing in Las Vegas today and if yesterday’s Nationwide Series is any indication we are in for some interesting racing.
Three things stood out from yesterday’s Nationwide Series race.
Mark Martin can still race. Given a halfway decent car Mark Martin can still findĀ a way to get it to victory lane. Yesterday’s victory marked the 48th of his Nationwide career.
Finishing ahead of Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick and David Stremme the 49-year-old driver got Dale Earnhardt Jr to victory lane as a car owner for the first time.
With five laps to go Martin caught the batteling lead cars of Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski. After bumping Edwards the two lead cars spun into the wall leaving Martin in the lead and a green-white-checker finish.
Another factor that will play into todays race will be tire wear. Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton and a host of others found themseleves out of contention after cutting tires. While the cars are different today there still expects to be all sorts of tire issues.
The final thing that stood out yesterday was the sheer number of laps under caution. I taped the race to watch later and I felt like I had fast forwarded more then half of it. I began watching the race at the same time the Spurs game tipped off and between commerical breaks, grilling some steaks and then eating them I found myself done with the race before the start of the third quarter.
Accidents happen, rubbin is racing and all the other slogans will be thrown out but no one likes to watch the pace car run half the race out front. Hopefully today’s race will be a little more race heavy, then again many of the same drivers are out there again.
