Will Hamilton or Berkman have more RBI? household supremency on the line

By john • May 13th, 2008 • Category: josh hamilton, lance berkman, predictions

The Texas Rangers did their best to lose last night. Closer CJ Wilson blew a four run lead in the ninth that forced extra innings prior to Ramon Vazquez hitting a game winning home run off of Seattle Mariners reliever Brandon Morrow.

In the game Josh Hamilton knocked in four including his eigth home run of the season in the third off of Mariners starter Erik Bedard.

The four RBI by Hamilton give him 43 on the season after just 39 games, last season in his breakout season Hamilton recorded 47 RBI in 90 games. It’s assured that Hamilton will break that number this season. Hamilton has been so hot to start the season that he actually leads all of the majors in RBI though theres a name behind him that is quite familiar with raking in RBI’s himself. Houston Astros slugger Lancer Berkman is no longer the only source of offense in the lineup and as usual the 220 pound first basemen is among the league leaders in RBI.

I mention this because after the Rangers game ended I flipped the channel to catch the end of the Astros game. My wife made a comment about Hamilton’s RBI total in which I responded “I bet Lance Berkman finishes the season with more” she disagreed.

Okay fine disagree with me if you want. That’s cool but I just want to le you know that Berkman has topped 120 RBI three times in his career and has topped 100 RBI’s five times.

Who knows if either of these men will even be at the top of the RBI list when the season ends after all who could have predicted that Xaiver Nady, Emil Brown and Connor Jackson would all have been in the top ten at this point?

Current Numbers
Hamilton 43 RBI   8 HR .306 AVG   .922 OPS
Berkman  38 RBI 13 HR .393 AVG 1.270 OPS
