The Seattle Mariners have sent Jeff Clement back to Triple-A Tacoma after a short stay in the majors.

Clemenet appeared in just 15 games with the team and posted a .167/.286/.250 line in 48 at-bats. His departure opens up a roster spot for the returning Jeremy Reed.

Jose Vidro likely will resume playing DH for the Mariners but considering his .207/.256/.302 line in 33 games this season the offense isn’t likely to see much of a boost if any.

Clement who was a first round pick in 2005 by the team has split time between catcher and DH during his minor league career. Clement has put up solid numbers in the minors and has little left to prove.

In 2007 Clement hit .275/.370/.497 while hitting 20 homers as a member of the Tacoma Rainiers.

The Mariners offense ranks 23rd in the league in runs scored, 25th in batting, 29th in on base percentage, and 26th in OPS.
