Baby CJ in the hospital
By john • May 21st, 2008 • Category: christian john, personalThe last two days have been a tad hectic for us. About five days ago our son began vomiting after each feeding. The issue appeared to be getting better by Monday but later that night it happened again and into Tuesday morning.
According to the doctors at North Central Baptist Hospital he has Pyloric Stenosis. There is narrowing (stenosis) of the opening from the stomach to the intestines, due to enlargement (hypertrophy) of the muscle surrounding this opening (the pylorus, meaning “gate”), which spasms when the stomach empties.
To sum it up in terms everyone can understand his stomach cannot empty itself due to the muscle which connects it to the intestines so each time he eats he vomits it back up.
Currently they are working to correct his dehydration and hypochloremic alkalosis with IV fluids and he will probably have surgery tomorrow morning to fix everything. It’s supposedly a 30 minute procedure.
I am at home right now picking up a few things before heading back to the hospital. I’ll provide an update later.
