Feierabend fairing well in Tacoma
By john • May 24th, 2008 • Category: minor leagues, ryan feierabend, seattle marinersLast season the Seattle Mariners gave Ryan Feierabend a chance to start in the majors. It was too much too soon for the 21-year old and after a 1-6 record and a 8.03 ERA the team sought help for their rotation.
The Mariners traded for Erik Bedard and signed Carlos Silva as a free agent. Along with Felix Hernandez, Jarrod Washburn, and Miguel Batista the Mariners figured they had a pretty good rotation to start the season.
Things aren’t done on paper and as the season quickly approaches halfway the Mariners have just one starter in Felix Hernandez with an ERA below 4.70.
Meanwhile Feierabend has been doing a good job at Triple-A Tacoma. In eight starts this year he is 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA. The league is hitting just .230 against him and he’s even cut down on his walks allowing just 10 though 46 innings this year.
As the Mariners drop farther and farther out in the race for the AL West it’s becoming more and more likely that the team will call up Feierabend to again give him a chance.
If nothing more the Mariners will be looking for suitors to help relieve them from at least one of the contracts of Batista ($8 mil) Washburn ($9 mil) or Silva ($12 mil).
