Referee Joey Crawford gets revenge against Spurs

By john • May 27th, 2008 • Category: brent barry, los angeles lakers, san antonio spurs

Brent Barry scored 23 of the San Antonio Spurs 81 points but it missed a critical three pointer at the end of the fourth quarter a mist being fouled by Derrick Fisher. Referee Joey Crawford ruled it was a no call.

The result was the Spurs dropping a crucial game 4 to the Los Angeles Lakers and the no call on the foul will undoubtedly lead to speculation that Crawford was seeking revenge after being suspended following an incident with Tim Duncan last season.

Barry who had missed much of the regular season with a calf injury was a welcomed sight for the Spurs who received just seven points from Manu Ginobili.

The Spurs were not only hampered by the complete ineffectiveness of Ginobili but also struggled to stop the Lakers late in the game, failing to connect on key three pointers.

The team also failed to mount much presence while Lakers star Kobe Bryant was resting from the end of the third and early fourth quarters.

Up 3-1 in the series the Lakers will look to close it out when they return home.

The loss means three more things for those who live in the Alamo city.

*Hours upon hours of talk about Joey Crawford and the no call
*There will be no free coffee at Valero tomorrow
*There will be a lot of people wearing purple tomorrow claiming they are from Southern California. Likely story, not.

  1. That was a BS call for Crawford to be put in the position to make. It’s just like the Bowen Vs Dirk ghost foul in previous WEstern finals that gave the bunk title to the Mavs.

  2. A few things. The refs were right to swallow the whistle; if Barry had followed through Fisher’s waist/hip and taken a dive, they’d absolutely have called it. But what did he do? He stepped back, straightened up and took a shot. With a second on the clock, veteran refs will not call that to end a clutch playoff game on free throws. The Spurs can bitch all they want, but they were down by two in a clutch game 4 AT HOME, and with 2 seconds to go had Horry pass it in to Barry? The fault is entirely their own.
By the way, the word is ‘amidst’, not ‘a mist’, and ‘welcome sight’ not ‘welcomed sight’.

  3. THE SPURS ARE DONE!! I HATE TONY PARKER !! AHAHAHAHAHA!! THE SPURS SUCKED SO HARD!! AND TO THINK THEY THOUGHT THEY DESERVED THAT LAST CALL? YOU GUYS PLAYED LIKE SHIT THE WHOLE GAME. YOU CAN’T EXPECT TO WIN A GAME ON ONE CALL. THE LAKERS WILL ANAL RAPE YOU JUST LIKE KOBE ANAL RAPED THAT GIRL!!

    SUCKAS!!! GO DETROIT!!
