McPherson’s minor resurgence makes him a star

A few years ago Dallas McPherson was at the top of the Anaheim Angels farm system. At 24 years old the left handed hitting third basemen was figured to be a middle of the order hitter for the team for years.

Things didn’t work out for McPherson in Anaheim and after spending parts of three years with the big league club and a completely missed 2007 campaign after electing to have back surgery to fuse two vertebrate.

The Angels elected not to bring back McPherson and as January came to a close the Florida Marlins signed him to a minor league contract.

After a rebirth with the teams Triple-A club the Albuquerque Isotopes McPherson was today naked to the Pacific Coast Leagues All-Star team.

He’s let his bat do the talking hitting 29 home runs and 63 RBI while compiling a .307/.421/.697 line.

The only problem for McPherson now is that Jorge Cantu has also again found his swing and is currently manning the hot corner. On the other side of the diamond Mike Jacobs has been producing with home runs and RBI despite ranking towards the bottom in most rate stats.

Unless the front office decides to stop the Mike Jacobs experiment then there isn’t much playing time available for McPherson currently.
