Harrison an angel for Texas
By john • Jul 9th, 2008 • Category: major leagues, matt harrison, texas rangersHe pitched a no hitter earlier this year while at Double-A but I’m going to bet that Tuesday’s performance even topped that for Texas Rangers rookie Matt Harrison.
Harrison, making his major league debut, knocked off the Los Angeles Angels pitching 7 stellar innings allowing just 2 runs on five hits and a walk.
He was the third youngster to make his debut for the team this year following in the footsteps of Eric Hurley and Doug Mathis. Even more Mitch Ballard is expected to make his big league debut on Wednesday for the team.
Waiting for Harrison following his interview with the media was club president Nolan Ryan. On the hill for the Angels was another left hander in Joe Saunders who was trying to become the first Angels starter to win 13 games prior to the All-Star break since Ryan did so in 1977.
“It’s everything I’ve worked for all my life,” said Harrison said following the game.
