Khalil Greene injuries hand on storage chest

By john • Jul 31st, 2008 • Category: khalil green, major leagues, san diego padres

San Diego Padres shortstop Khalil Greene injured his left hand while hitting a storage chest Wednesday night.

Greene was already stumbling though a horrid season hitting just .213 with 10 home runs. There had been more then a few reports that suggested that the Padres were trying to ship the 28 year old but nothing had thus panned out.

Never known for his contact Greene hit 27 home runs last season and the Padres were hoping his bat would be a huge part of their lineup. Instead Greene has just 27 extra base hits on the season after 74 last season.

If the sore hand turns out to be anything more it probably signals the end of Greene’s stay with the team. The team may try to dump the $6.5 million he is owed in 2009.
