White Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez
By john • Aug 9th, 2008 • Category: chicago white sox, horacio ramirez, kansas city royals, major leaguesWith Jose Conteras lost for the season and left handed specialist Boone Logan in a terrible slump Chicago White Sox GM Kenny Williams set out for pitching help. What he got was Horacio Ramirez.
Had this been two years ago I’d be raving about how well Ramirez can pitch and saying that for a end of the rotation stater the team got a good pitcher here. But then again I have to remind myself that it’s 2008 and Ramirez has been relegated to long relief on the Kansas City Royals.
Ramirez looked like he was on his way to a solid career following a 12-4 record and a 4.00 ERA in his rookie season. Unfortunately injuries struck the next season and with the right mix of inconsistency Ramirez found himself having to sign a minor league contract with the Royals this spring.
After a brief stay in Triple-A he was called up to the big leagues and has a 2.59 ERA in 15 games spanning 24.1 innings.
Now the 28 year old finds himself back in a playoff race.
The bounty for Ramirez was just outfielder Paulo Orlando, a player in the California League who doesn’t figure to ever sniff the majors.
