McCarthy building towards next season

Brandon McCarthy will make his fifth start of the season Monday as the Texas Rangers host the Detroit Tigers.

McCarthy missed the first 4 1/2 months of the season due to severe forearm and elbow inflammation and is hoping to make a good impression on the Rangers coaches as the season comes to an end.

After three stellar starts he struggled in his last outing allowing six runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox.

Overall the lanky right hander is 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA. Left handers are hitting .300 while right handers are hitting just .200.
