Peavy wants his new team to be strong

It looks like Jake Peavy isn’t just going to allow himself to be traded for anything. The star pitcher’s agent recently told the San Diego Union Tribune that he wouldn’t want to be traded for Braves short stop Yunel Escobar because trading a major league quality player for him would make the team behind him weaker.

“Escobar’s a pretty good player,” agent Barry Axelrod said. “To be honest, Jake and I have said, ‘If that kind of trade gets made, who plays short for them?’”
There’s little doubt that being limited to prospects and bench players will make Padres’ general manager Kevin Towers job that much tougher.
While there is no shortage of teams interested in Peavy there does figure to be problems when major league ready players are not included in the trade.
