Rangers designate Littleton for assignment

By john • Nov 21st, 2008 • Category: major leagues, texas rangers, wes littleton

The Texas Rangers designated relievers Wes Littleton and Kameron Loe for assignment. Loe has already signed a deal with a team in the Pacific Japanese League worth $2 million over the next two years. Littleton on the other hand is being taken off the 40 man roster by the Rangers and will have to clear waivers for the team to keep him.

Littleton, a side arming 26 year old has appeared in 80 big league games over the last three seasons totaling a 5-3 record and a 3.69 ERA.

In 2006 Littleton made 33 appearances for the Rangers posting a 1.73 ERA over 36 1/3 innings. The team had hoped he would eventually transition into a reliable late inning reliever or even a closer in the coming years but LIttleton hasn’t shown the same promise over the last two seasons.
Over the past two years Littleon has appeared in 47 games for the Rangers posting a 4.77 ERA.
If he gets his sinker diving like it used to, he could be an extremely valuable middle reliever. It’s hard to say if Littleton will get claimed as the Rangers aren’t the only club scrambeling to protect players ahead of the Rule 5 draft.
