Odalis Perez not on verge on multi-year contract?

By john • Nov 25th, 2008 • Category: free agents, odalis perez, washington nationals

Contrary to what was said yesterday the agent of free agent Odalis Perez denied that the left hander and the Washington Nationals are working on a multi-year deal.

Martin Arburua stated that the team has expressed an interest in retaining Perez but that both parties are going to see how the free-agent market plays out.

“What I told you [last week] is exactly how it is,” Arburua said by phone on Monday night. “I want the Nationals to understand that we are clear. We talked, and that’s where it is.”

The Nationals on Monday night would not confirm wether an offer was in place for their Opening Day starter from 2008 or not.

Last season, Perez, 31, pitched for the Nationals and made $850,000.

Perez went 7-12 with a 4.34 ERA in 30 starts for Washington after pitching his way onto the team as a non roster invitee to spring training.
