Oswalt will pitch in WBC

Finally, some fresh air when it comes to the World Baseball Classic. You may have heard that 2009 will mark the second coming of the World Baseball Classic and by now you probably have heard more from the names who won’t be playing then those who will.

Well add Roy Oswalt to the column of players who will pitch for team USA. Oswalt, 31, who has played his entire 8-year career with the Houton Astros stated his excitement about the tournement that will take place during spring training.

“If I only play three more years, this would be a good opportunity,” Oswalt said Monday. “I thought it’d be a great time to do it and try to win a gold medal.”
Oswalt is no newcoming to the World scene as he was part of  Team USA at the 2000 Sydney Olympics which took home a gold medal.
He’s been one of the more overlooked (and quite) stars of baseball in recent years. He has topped 200 innings pitched the last five years.
A two-time All-Star despite ranking in the top 5 in Cy Young voting five times Oswalt has a career 3.13 ERA and 129 victores to his credit.
It’s always nice to see when a player is willing to play in these events. In recent years we’ve seen players refuse to play in the All-Star game or MLB’s tour to Japan for fear of injury. Hat’s off to Roy-O.
