General Questions

Why did you start this site?
The site was created mainly as a way to showcase our photos and partly due to boredom.

Who are your favorite professional teams?
Carrie is a fan of the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers and Indianapolis Colts. John on the other hand prefers the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.

Why does the site seem to revolve around the Texas League, its teams and former players?
We live in San Antonio Texas. Currently the San Antonio Missions (Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres) play a few miles from us. Aside from a 3 hour drive to Houston, a five our drive to Arlington it’s our way to see games in person.

Do you ever go see the Major Leaguers or NFL?
A few times each year we load up the car with water, sandwiches and other goodies and see the Houston Astros or Texas Rangers play. The drive is a little far to do too often but does provide for a nice break from the minor leagues.

Do you ever get tired of baseball?
Sometimes we have to miss a game or two or even five in a row. Which is fine usually. It’s a little odd though when all the “regs” ask where have we been.

Photography

Who takes the photos? What equipment do you use?
Just about all of the photos seen on this site were taken by us. From time to time we may have to use an AP photo but will give credit to the person who took it. Currently we have a Sony Alpha with a few different lenses.

Do you get new equipment to use? How often?
When we first started he had a small digital camera. We are always looking at new lenses and cameras.

Where do you take your photos?
While we travel from time to time the majority of our photos are taken at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium, home of the San Antonio Missions. (Currently the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres) Due to this most of our photos are of players/teams in the Texas League.

I like your photos and would like you to shoot an event for me
The best way to hire us to shoot your event is to contact us. Aside from sports we also shoot weddings, family reunions and other events. Examples can be seen at http://www.sotexphotography.com.

Memorabilia and the players

Do you have any special contacts with the players?
Not really. Aside from the kindness of Marc Kaiser we haven’t received any special favors from any players or teams. (Well unless you count Ballapeno trading us movie tickets for photos)

Do you collect anything?
We like to get the players to sign a photo or two that we have taken. Some of the players we may like more (whether from talking or watching) we get an 8 x 10 of. Occasionally we will get a few cards signed though when you are mostly watching minor leaguers it gets a little tough at times to find cards. Sometimes we come across a reasonably priced bat or jersey which we will pick up in an attempt to get it signed for our collection.

Where do you get your items?
Team stores, the occasional cracked bat handed to the fan at the end of the game, eBay auctions and of course the photographs are by us.

Do you profit on any of your signatures/items?
Believe it or not we have not sold any of the items we have gotten signed. Sure there may be a market for these kind of items but it’s not something we are into. If we were to start selling our signed bats, jerseys and other memorabilia we’d be no better then the guy who has 10 baseball cards and expects to get them all signed. Some of our photos are displayed in frames on our walls, others in an album.

If you don’t profit on the signatures why do you sell your photographs?
I’m not going to hound a player to sign 35 of the same photo or card like some collectors. By taking the photo I am just allowing another collector the opportunity to have a nice photo signed by a player they like. There’s no harm in that.

Wait! Weren’t you that guy yelling “Do it for Bengi’s girl”?
Yep, that was me. Casey Benjamin should have been expecting that when he posted that junk on his MySpace.

Casey Benjamin has a MySpace? Can I see?
I’m not into giving out players MySpace information but I will say he’s not the only one. You can find some by searching for their name or searching for a teammate. If you want to see someone’s MySpace page then you’ll have to look yourself.

Do you have a MySpace?
Who doesn’t? You can see us on MySpace here.
