By john • Aug 20th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, major leagues, tom glavine, top story

Those of us who were wondering about the status of Tom Glavines career can breathe a little easier tonight.
Test show that Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine has no ligament damage in his left elbow, leaving open the possibility he could return next season.
Glavine was examined by Dr. James Andrews and while test showed that the [...]

Glavines sore elbow could end career

By john • Aug 15th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, major leagues, tom glavine, top story

Tom Glavine went back to the disabled list on Friday, just a day after making his first start since June 10. Glavine was pounded to the tune of seven runs, seven hits while walking four in the Braves 11-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
Today it appears his season has ended and while there has been [...]

Older Ka’aihue providing muscle this year

By john • Aug 13th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, kala kaaihue, kansas city royals, kila kaaihue, minor leagues

Earlier this year I noticed that Kila Kaaihue again was assigned to the Kansas City Royals Double-A affiliate. While the team had recently changed names from Wichita to North West Arkansas Kaaihue was still a member.
Remembering that I had seen Kaaihue the last two seasons the thought of just another guy who can’t get pass [...]

The end of excellence? Braves selling at deadline

By john • Jul 30th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, casey kotchman, major leagues, mark texeiria

When I was younger watching the Atlanta Braves was a seemingly nightly experience. Being the only true baseball fan in the house I watched the majority of the games downstairs wearing my Braves cap and consuming soda and goodies.
I began watching the Braves regularly sometime late in the 1990 season. For the next 15 years [...]

Chipper back as an All Star

By john • Jul 8th, 2008 • Category: all star, atlanta braves, chipper jones, major leagues, top story

Chipper Jones selection to the National League All Star team was the 6th of his career but the first since 2001. Sometimes players are selected to All Star teams based on previous years performance but Jones has earned this selection.
In recent years Jones had seemed to be a reoccuring trip to the DL with a [...]

Braves recall Josh Anderson

By john • May 31st, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, josh anderson, major leagues

Now that Tokyo’s closet woman has been caught I think it’s time we take a look at a man who the Atlanta Braves had stored in Triple-A to start the year.
Josh Anderson, 25, was acquired from the Houston Astros this winter as the Braves prepared for life after Andruw Jones.
Unlike Jones this guy could make [...]

Smoltz achieves his 3,000th K

By john • Apr 24th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, john smoltz, turner field

You never know what you’re going to see when you attend a baseball game. A pitching duel turned home run barrage or a comedy of errors and rain delays.
On the hill on Tuesday night for the Atlanta Braves was 40-year old John Smoltz. A career spanning 20 seasons, 200 plus wins, 154 saves and [...]

A reason to like each team

This is one tough task but I’ve decided to try and fine a reason to like each of the 30 teams in major league baseball. Now some were easier to find then others and while some will disagree for the reasoning I’ve done my best I think.
I hope to continue this series by creating a [...]

An open apology to Chipper Jones

By john • Mar 2nd, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, chipper jones

He’s got a cool nick name, an MVP award, multiple silver slugger awards, and a bunch of team records and still I’ve never listed Chipper Jones too highly on my favorite players list.
Chipper has taken pay cuts twice to help the Braves and even moved to left field at one point to make room for [...]

Former Slugger Ryan Klesko retires

By john • Feb 9th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, ryan klesko, san diego padres, san fransisco giants

After spending the off season looking for employment and not finding a full time gig Ryan Klesko has decided to retire according to former teammate Chipper Jones.
Klesko spent most of his 16 year career bouncing back and forth from first base and the outfield to accommodate other players on his teams.
A fifth round pick pick [...]

Braves looking at Kotsay?

By john • Jan 12th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, josh anderson, mark kotsay

For a team who was financially strapped and did not entertain the idea of resigning star center fielder Andruw Jones the name Mark Kotsay offers atleast an alternative.
Of course that alternative involves replacing a gold glover who has topped 150 games in each inning with a guy who hasn’t managed to play 150 games since [...]

Braves sign Lopez to minor league contract

By john • Dec 17th, 2007 • Category: atlanta braves, javy lopez

The Atlanta Braves have signed catcher Javy Lopez to a minor league contract inviting him to spring training. Lopez did not play last season after being released by the Colorado Rockies in Spring Training after the team thought that rookie Chris Ianetta could actually hit major league pitching.
Lopez, who played for the Braves from 1992-2003, [...]

Is Glavine the right decision?

By john • Nov 15th, 2007 • Category: atlanta braves, jair jurrjens, jojo reyes, tom glavine

It’s not often that a 18 game winner who posted a 2.96 ERA is not even made an offer by his team but that is what happened following the 2003 season.
Instead left hander Tom Glavine took his 200-plus wins and two Cy Young awards and headed up north to the rival New York Mets. Glavine’s [...]

Forget the Braves of the 90’s, Indians real choke job

By john • Oct 16th, 2007 • Category: 1995 world series, 1997 world series, atlanta braves, cleveland indians, florida marlins

Never mind what you’ve heard on ESPN a million times. Forget about the Atlanta Braves of the 1990’s. Sure they were a darn good team and won their division from 1991-2005, a major league best 14 in a row, but they can’t possibly be considered failures. Sure they may have won only one World Series [...]
