Some people didn’t know Greinke was good?

By john • Apr 30th, 2009 • Category: kansas city royals, top story, zack greinke

For the life of me I can’t seem to figure out why everyone is making such a big deal out of Zack Greinke’s strong start to the season. In case you live under a rock or need a refresher Greinke became the first five game winner of the season last night after he pitched 7 [...]

By john • Mar 9th, 2009 • Category: kansas city royals, lenny dinardo, minor leagues, non roster invitee

Hoping to shrug off last season Lenny DiNardo signed a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals this December. DiNardo, 29, is left handed and has appeared in games in parts of five seasons.
He was once highly thought of out of the Boston Red Sox minor league system but never really got the chance [...]

Jamey Wright signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training with the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. The 34-year-old pitcher had spent the last two seasons acting as a middle reliever for the Texas Rangers.
Last season he had a 5.12 ERA while pitching 84 1/3 innings out of the Rangers pen. His [...]

Kyle Davies works the offseason in construction

By john • Dec 19th, 2008 • Category: kansas city royals, kyle davies, major leagues

Recently the Kansas City Star ran a piece on Kyle Davies and his offseason work in construction. Normally I’d rewrite the article in my own way and throw in a few quips but I’ll just provide the link.
Davies works with his father and apparently the majority of their work comes in remodeling McDonald’s.

Horacio Ramirez to rejoin Royals

By john • Dec 10th, 2008 • Category: horacio ramirez, kansas city royals, major leagues

The Kansas City Star is reporting that the Royals are making a ripple in free agency. The team soon earlier today announced the singing of pitcher Horacio Ramirez.
Ramirez pitched for the Royals briefly last season posting a 1-1 record and a 2.59 ERA in 15 games prior to a trade to the Chicago White Sox. [...]

Older Ka’aihue providing muscle this year

By john • Aug 13th, 2008 • Category: atlanta braves, kala kaaihue, kansas city royals, kila kaaihue, minor leagues

Earlier this year I noticed that Kila Kaaihue again was assigned to the Kansas City Royals Double-A affiliate. While the team had recently changed names from Wichita to North West Arkansas Kaaihue was still a member.
Remembering that I had seen Kaaihue the last two seasons the thought of just another guy who can’t get pass [...]

White Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez

By john • Aug 9th, 2008 • Category: chicago white sox, horacio ramirez, kansas city royals, major leagues

With Jose Conteras lost for the season and left handed specialist Boone Logan in a terrible slump Chicago White Sox GM Kenny Williams set out for pitching help. What he got was Horacio Ramirez.
Had this been two years ago I’d be raving about how well Ramirez can pitch and saying that for a end of [...]

By john • Jul 11th, 2008 • Category: colorado rockies, josh newman, kansas city royals, minor leagues

Josh Newman, 26, has been claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Royals. Newman had struggled at the big league level in stints with the Colorado Rockies but posted a 2.45 ERA while a member of the teams Triple-A affiliate.
Newman still projects as a solid relief pitcher. The left handed Newman posted stellar minor league [...]

Butler bounces back in Triple-A

By john • Jun 13th, 2008 • Category: billy butler, kansas city royals, minor leagues, pacific coast league

Billy Butler appears to have figured out what ailed him earlier this season. Butler who was banished to Triple-A Omaha has sought revenge on the Pacific Coast League.
Since the demotion the 22-year-old is hitting .377/.441/.679 with three homers and just two strikeouts in 53 at-bats.
With little in the way of major league offense at his [...]

This is one tough task but I’ve decided to try and fine a reason to like each of the 30 teams in major league baseball. Now some were easier to find then others and while some will disagree for the reasoning I’ve done my best I think.
I hope to continue this series by creating a [...]

Making the Case: Brett Tomko/Luke Hochavar

By john • Mar 15th, 2008 • Category: brett tomko, kansas city royals, luke hochevar

Before I started doing non-roster invitee reports I had intended to highlight a position battle each week. Of course I’ve failed in that quest but today I’ll go ahead and take a look at one battle.
Entering spring the Royals knew that Gil Meche, Brian Bannister and Zack Greinke would be their first three starters but [...]

Non Roster Invitee: Chin-hui Tsao

By john • Mar 1st, 2008 • Category: chin-hui tsao, kansas city royals, non roster invitee

Chin-hui Tsao joins his third organization in four years as he attempts to win a spot on the Kansas City Royals.
He’s hit a few bumpy roads along the way but his age, still just 26, and talent still have scouts salavating today.
While his major league resume may be a bit maligned he has fared far [...]

Making the Case: John Buck/Miguel Olivo

By john • Dec 28th, 2007 • Category: john buck, kansas city royals, matt tupman, miguel olivo

One battle that figures to be competive or atleast midly humerous is for the starting job as the Kansas City Royals catcher. With two players who are so close in abilites it could come down to who has the better spring.
The battle is between John Buck and the recently acquired Miguel Olivo. Both men bat [...]

A Deeper Look at Chris Lubanski

By john • Dec 5th, 2007 • Category: chris lubanski, kansas city royals

Roughly two weeks ago the Kansas City Royals added Matt Tupman, Mario Lisson, Tyler Lumsden and Julio Pimentel to the 40-man roster. One name not added was Chris Lubanski, the fifth overall pick of the 2003 draft. The Royals may be right to be down on Lubanski after hsi struggles upon promotion to Omaha but the [...]
