Russell Branyan excelling in regular role

By john • Jul 1st, 2009 • Category: major leagues, russell branyan, seattle mariners, top story

Russell Branyan signed as a free agent with Seattle this winter when the team promised him a job as a regular. Previously he had bounced around from team to team and despite a flury of moonshot home runs he didn’t truely find a place that seemed to embrace him playing everyday.
Looking at his numbers from [...]

Non Roster Invitee: Chris Shelton - Mariners

By john • Mar 9th, 2009 • Category: chris shelton, major leagues, non roster invitee, seattle mariners

A few months ago the Seattle Post Intelligencer which reports that Chris Shelton “will enter camp with an excellent chance to make the Opening Day roster” despite being one of 17 non-roster players invited to spring training by the Mariners. It if’s that certain then I’d be a fool not to write about a guy [...]

Another setback for M’s Feierabend

By john • Feb 25th, 2009 • Category: minor leagues, ryan feierabend, seattle mariners, top story

Ryan Feierabend wasn’t going to open the season in the Seattle Mariners rotation, and now he may not pitch at all.
Feierabend, 23, had gone 2-11 with a 7.22 ERA in 25 games for the Mariners over the last three seasons. He entered camp hoping to impress for a middle of the season call up but [...]

Chris Shelton enters M’s camp with “excellent chance”

By john • Jan 15th, 2009 • Category: chris shelton, minor leagues, seattle mariners

I’m not the one who said that. Instead it was the Seattle Post Intelligencer which reports that Chris Shelton “will enter camp with an excellent chance to make the Opening Day roster” despite being one of 17 non-roster players invited to spring training by the Mariners.
Shelton spent time last season with the Texas Rangers hitting [...]

Jose Lopez moving to first?

By john • Dec 19th, 2008 • Category: jose lopez, major leagues, seattle mariners

I don’t know how or why or what but new Seattle Mariners skipper Don Wakamatsu seems to think that second basemen Jose Lopez could solve the teams problems at first. Lopez had his best statitical season last year hitting .297 with 17 homers, and 89 RBI.
As a second basemen Lopez has above average range and [...]

Remembering Phil Bradley for no reason at all

By john • Sep 24th, 2008 • Category: baltimore orioles, chicago white sox, phil bradley, philadelphia phillies, remembering for no reason at all, seattle mariners

It’s been ages since I’ve writing one of these but I remember the last time I thought about writing one of these it was about former Oriole outfielder Phil Bradley. That was because I found a half sized card of the Indiana native while moving stuff around after our move to Indiana.
Odd I suppose, even [...]

Bavasi gets fired

By john • Jun 16th, 2008 • Category: bill bavasi, major leagues, seattle mariners

It took four and a half seasons of poor performance and bad decisions but the Seattle Mariners have finally cut loose Bill Bavasi.
The team was 322-395 during his stay as general manager. With a top ten payroll the team is right now the worst in the league and that’s before we even begin to comment [...]

Feierabend fairing well in Tacoma

By john • May 24th, 2008 • Category: minor leagues, ryan feierabend, seattle mariners

Last season the Seattle Mariners gave Ryan Feierabend a chance to start in the majors. It was too much too soon for the 21-year old and after a 1-6 record and a 8.03 ERA the team sought help for their rotation.
The Mariners traded for Erik Bedard and signed Carlos Silva as a free agent. Along [...]

Clement out, Vidro in as M’s DH

By john • May 19th, 2008 • Category: jeff clement, jose vidro, seattle mariners

The Seattle Mariners have sent Jeff Clement back to Triple-A Tacoma after a short stay in the majors.
Clemenet appeared in just 15 games with the team and posted a .167/.286/.250 line in 48 at-bats. His departure opens up a roster spot for the returning Jeremy Reed.
Jose Vidro likely will resume playing DH for the Mariners [...]

This is one tough task but I’ve decided to try and fine a reason to like each of the 30 teams in major league baseball. Now some were easier to find then others and while some will disagree for the reasoning I’ve done my best I think.
I hope to continue this series by creating a [...]

Non Roster Invitee: Mark Kiger - Mariners

By john • Feb 23rd, 2008 • Category: mark kiger, non roster invitee, seattle mariners

Next stop on the non roster invitee report is the Pacific North West and the Seattle Mariners. While the Mariners. The Mariners could look to take on Chris Reitsma, Arthur Rhodes, Jake Woods or another pitcher for their bullpen and while they are deserving or a piece on them we’ll take a look at Mark [...]

Horacio Ramirez gets a raise

By john • Jan 18th, 2008 • Category: cha seung baek, horacio ramirez, r.a. dickey, seattle mariners

Apparently even a 7.16 ERA can’t prevent you from getting a raise when it comes to arbitration.
The Seattle Mariners resigned the 28 year-old lefty to a $2.75 million dollar contract Friday. Ramirez started just 20 games last season posting a 8-7 record.
Ramirez was so bad for the team that they again experimented with Cha Seung [...]

Mariners get a Dickey!

By john • Dec 6th, 2007 • Category: minnesota twins, r.a. dickey, seattle mariners

More then any other team today the Minnesota Twins seemed to lose player after player to the Rule 5 draft.
They couldn’t have expected anyone to want R.A. Dickey. After all Dickey spent all of last year in Nashville, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Twins signed the 33 year-old knuckleballer to a minor league [...]

LaHair’s stock drops

By john • Oct 23rd, 2007 • Category: bryan lahair, seattle mariners

Before this season started Bryan LaHair’s name was brought up in circles across the internet as being a possible alternative to the current situation at DH and first. The 24 year old 39th round pick had defiantly surprised the scouts.
Unfortuantley for LaHair his numbers were no where near last year’s and didn’t even recieve a [...]
