As the Chicago White Sox were working on the final outs of their Monday game against Detroit I knew what was going to happen.

All season I had promised the wife that I’d take her to see the White Sox, and while we did see them in Baltimore I knew she’d only truely be happy if we actually went to the South Side.

Getting tickets to tonights game was a usual ticketmaster mess but we pulled though and will be seated in the upper deck. It doesn’t matter where we sit. We just wanted to be there.

After not seeing the Sox for 81 home games it’s the 82nd, game 163 of the year, that we will attend.

You probably won’t be able to see us if you’re watching TBS but we will be there.

Left handed pitcher John Danks, a guy I saw at the Double-A level when he was still in the Texas Rangers system, takes the hill for the White Sox. He wasn’t very good in his last outing and will be on short rest. Danks could really go a long way in this one.

Both teams expect to pull the trigger soon should either starter falter and both teams will have lineups of potential heros.

When Arizona Diamondbacks third basemen Mark Reynolds struck out during the second inning Wednesday he put his name in the record books.

Though it’s not on a list where most would want to be. Reynolds tied the major league record for strike outs in a reason with his 199th strike out of the year, trying Ryan Howards number from last season.

It marked the sixth time in the last four years that someone has topped Bobby Bonds 189 strike outs during the 1970 season. For 34 years Bonds name was atop the list for strike outs. No one wanted to pass Bonds on the list so much that in 2002 the Brewers sat infielder Jose Hernandez to avoid him breaking the record.

But that was the days of 2002. Players, general managers and fans feared large strike out totals. Now they are fine as long as you can hit the big fly.

Adam Dunn broke the big league record in 2004 and since then even his total of 194 has been passed three times. Ryan Howard twice has recorded 195 or more strike outs in a year.

I don’t think this is a trend we should expect to see reversed anytime soon.

Adam Pettyjohn has returned to the big leagues. Make no mistake this is not a mirage or 2001 when he appeared in 16 games, inclduing 9 starts on his way to posting a 1-6 record and a 5.82 ERA.

It’s 2008 and the 31-year old Pettyjohn has traveled the minor league circuit as much as anyone. Since the last time the left hander appeared in the big leagues he has joined six different organizations.

Pettyjohn was a non roster invitee to Spring Training by the Cincinnati Reds who we took a look at in March. At that time I speculated he would spend most of the year at the minor league level and if things worked out well at Louisville he’d get a look at in the majors.

Obviously the Reds and my views of working out well differ a bit. Despite picking up 15 wins at the Triple-A level Pettyjohn displayed a 1.33 WHIP, allowed 188 hits in 174.1 innings and struck out just 95 batters. He had a 4.59 ERA while a member of the Bats.

Already since his call up mid-way though September he has appeared in two games for the Reds pitching a total of three innings, allowing a run. With the news that Edison Volquez will not pitch in his final start of the year Pettyjohn figures to make a spot start for the club during the teams final game of the year.

Oddly the Reds have not started a left handed pitcher all season making Pettyjohn’s start the first and only of the season.

While I’m a little surprised Pettyjohn recieved a call up I do wish him the best.

It’s been ages since I’ve writing one of these but I remember the last time I thought about writing one of these it was about former Oriole outfielder Phil Bradley. That was because I found a half sized card of the Indiana native while moving stuff around after our move to Indiana.

Odd I suppose, even more I didn’t know Bradley was even from Indiana until I had already started writing this post proving I barely read the baseball card that I did find.

So to sum up Phil Bradley in a few lines would be a hard thing to do since I don’t really know anything about the guy even though he did play in 1022 games at the big league level.

I almost think this post should be written as a comedy act since I don’t quite know what I am talking about.

Bradley spent 8 seasons in the majors from 1983-1990 playing for the Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox.

In 1985, his third season, Bradley had a career year hitting 26 long balls, driving in 88 and hitting over .300. Bradley would never top 15 home runs in any of his other 7 years in the big leagues and never had more then 67 RBI in any season afterward.

In addition 1985 marked his only appearence in an All Star Game, he was 0-1 striking out in his lone at-bat.

Bradley stole 20 or more bases 5 times, including a career high of 40 in 1987.

An outfielder, Bradley played the bulk of the time in left field.

Here’s something you may not know about Bradley. He hit the first home run during a night game at Wrigley on August 8, 1988. Unfortunately for Bradley the homerun was later taken away since the game had to be called due to rain.

Overall dispite this really bad entry Bradley was a pretty good leadoff hitter, a guy who on three occasions scored 100 times. His speed was solid on the basepaths and he was quick out of the batters box.

My hope is that Phil Bradley or his family members do not read this. To be honest everyone is better to almost forget everything I wrote and just check out this guy. Baseball Todd’s Dugout.

It’s no fun to be playing out the season with no chances of post season play but you do it. It’s a scheduled game, there are some fans who still care, and frankly it’s your job.

The Baltimore Orioles announced yesterday to the amazement of no one that since the organization was going to miss the post season for the eleventh straight season that they weren’t even going to play all the games on their schedule.

While the Orioles are not the first organization to choose not to play a game since it had no effect on where they were going it’s still disappointing.

The Orioles would have made up a postponed game from September 6 on Monday September 28 but choose not to since the Baltimore Ravens, a team who has won something this century, were hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sure that game might not have ment much, and I doubt attendence would have been high but I’ve always believed in going to work, doing my job no matter what.

There’s been more then one occasion when I didn’t even want to update this crappy blog but heck I do it.

This is just another showing of how far this once proud organization has fallen. When will the Orioles wake up? When will they start doing things the Oriole way again and when will the loyal fans of the orange and black get to see the post season again?

McCarthy will not pitch again this year. The news came from manager Ron Washington on Monday after an

MRI revealed a strained flexor tendon in his right middle finger.

McCarthy who was acquired for John Danks in the winter of 2006 was 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in five starts after missing most of the year wire forearm issues.

In 28 appearances over 2 years for the Rangers McCarthy is a disappointing 6-11 with a

4.73 ERA. His K to BB ratio is 69/56 and his WHIP stands right around the dreaded 1.5 mark.

Let’s get this blog right. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed writing here and there in this blog until well… I almost couldn’t anymore.

At first I was like “oh well if its broken, then maybe I can actually find a topic and stick to it”. I even thought of names to use for the new and improved blog.

Fortunately for someone I did fix this blog. I don’t know what direction it is going but it is sure nice to be able ot access all of our old content.

In addition I’ve also upgraded to the newest version of Word Press and I must say that well it sucks. It seems with each upgrade they find new ways to move stuff around and put it in the most inconvient places. Placing the photo of the cheer leaders to the right took me an additional 5 seconds to figure out just how to insert a photo.

Word Press also moved the categories thing to the very bottom of the page, something that has been around for a while. Speaking of that this blog was started on categories and not tags because they didn’t even use them back then. So now all of my post are categoried in some stupid fashion unless I wanted to take the time to go back and edit all of my 500 categories into tags.

Thanks Word Press you guys are great.
