Maddux strong but pen fails

John Smoltz picked up his fifth win of the season after going seven innings Wednesday against the Padres. Greg Maddux received a no-decision after leaving with the lead after 5 1/3 innings. Maddux gave up three hits and two walks allowing one run and striking out three.

Reliever Cla Meredith was charged with a blown save after Chipper Jones hit a decisive double in the 7th.

Braver relievers Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano closed out the game for the Brave win.

    great website, and a great game by greg, i got to watch him warm up in the bullpen and got some great pics, he’s still 1-1 when i have seen him in person and in those three games he has always been on the road, i saw him as a padre in atlanta, a brave at the astrodome, and a cub in denver, greatest pitcher of all time, i hope he wins 350
