Pitching against a guy half his age, 41 year old Greg Maddux lasted 7 innings against the San Fransisco Giants to pick up the 340th win of his career.
San Fransisco was also the location of Maddux’s 300th win, and on June 27 his fourth win in five decisions also came at the hands of the Giants.
Maddux allowed five hits, a walk and one run while striking out four to move to 7-4 on the season. The lone run came on a Pedro Feliz. His ERA fell to 3.66, while his WHIP is a classic 1.23.
Maddux’s next outing figures to be against the Florida Marlins and Scott Olsen. (6-6, 4.93) The Marlins have been successful of late in Olsen’s starts winning 4 of his last 5.
The San Diego Padres bats erupted for 11 runs against the Chicago Cubs and starter Rich Hill in a win Sunday.

Here’s the MLB comments on Greg’s upcoming game against the Chicago Cubs.
Sunday June 17, 2007 - Wrigley Field
Padres: Maddux didn’t have his best stuff in his last start but he was effective nonetheless and held the Rays to three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. He was in line for his 339th career win, but two uncharacteristic defensive errors coupled with an even less-likely leaky bullpen saw the Padres lose by seven and Maddux take the no-decision. He’ll go against the Cubs, the team that drafted him in 1984 and with which he spent the first seven years of his Major League career. He’s 11-3 all-time with a 2.48 ERA against them.
Cubs: Hill did not get a decision in his last start against the Mariners. Among the hits off the lefty was an RBI single by Seattle pitcher Jarrod Washburn. Hill had trouble with his command in the game, as well as his funky delivery. He hesitates at some point, and has been warned that it must be a continuous motion with no stops.
With help from two errors by Adrian Gonzalez the Tampa Bay Devil Rays rallied past the San Diego Padres.
Padres starter Greg Maddux pitched into the 7th before giving way to reliever Cla Meredith.
Maddux allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 6 1/3 innings. He allowed six hits, struck out four and walked three. Witha 5-3 record his ERA stands at 3.86 on the season.
Geoff Blum drove in four runs, one shy of a career high, in a Padres win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Maddux on the other hand was his typical self. Maddux pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits and two runs. While he struck out none, he walked just one.
The Dodgers scored one in the 5th after back to back singles by Jeff Kent and Luis Gonzalez. Russell Matin would drive in a run with a sac fly.
After a homer by Jeff Kent, Luis Gonzalez walked in the 7th.
With the Padres up 5-2 Trevor Hoffman came in with a chance to save his 500th career save. After allowing a lead off double to Nomar Garciaparra, Hoffman got Jeff Kent and Luis Gonzalez to ground out. Russell Martin struck out to end the game to give Hoffman #500.
Congrats to Trevor.
