Maddux makes history, wins 10th
By john | August 25, 2007
Greg Maddux pitched 7 strong innings in Philadelphia notching his 10th win of the season as the Padres outlasted the Phillies 14-3.
The win was his 343rd of his career and the 20th consecutive season in which Maddux has won atleast 10 games, a new major league record. The old record had been held by some guy named Cy Young. (1891-1909)
When notified of the achivement Maddux simply replied “I didn’t know that. That’s cool. I’m just glad I’m still pitching.”
And pitching is what he did Friday night. Maddux scattered 7 hits in hisĀ 7 innings of work striking out one. He’s run his string of innings without a walk to 35 now.
Josh Bard was 5-for-6 with three RBI, while Kevin Kouzmanoff had his first 4 hit game of his career. Adrian Gonzalez hit two homers as did Milton Bradley.
The Padres were trailing 3-2 before scoring 12 runs from the fifth inning on. They’ve now won three in and row and have two more in Philadelphia before a four game series against Arizona.
Maddux’s next start figures to be August 30th againstĀ Micah Owings.
