Maddux defeats Colorado

Greg Maddux won for the fifth time in six starts as the San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in a pitching duel at Coors Field.

Maddux pitched 6 innings allowing three hits and just a single run in the second. His streak of not walking a batter has run to 54.1 innings. Doug Brocail and Heath Bell set things up for Trevor Hoffman who recoreded his 37th save of the season.

The win gives Maddux 12 on the season as his ERA fell to 3.68. It is also the 345th win of his career, just 9 behind Roger Clemens on the active list. Maddux projects to have four more starts and would need wins in three of them to record 15 wins for the 19th time in 20 seasons. His next projects to be against the San Fransisco Giants on Friday against Barry Zito (9-12, 4.46 ERA)

Maddux defeats Arizona

For the second time in two starts Greg Maddux came up on the winning side against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Maddux picked up his 11th win of the season after 6.1 innings allowing six hits and two runs. Maddux struck out five and again held the opposition without a walk.

Brian Giles hit two home runs off of Diamondback starter Micah Owings who fell to 6-8 on the year. With the win the Padres are now a game ahead of the Diamondbacks in the NL West.
