Maddux defeats Colorado

By john | September 9, 2007

Greg Maddux won for the fifth time in six starts as the San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in a pitching duel at Coors Field.

Maddux pitched 6 innings allowing three hits and just a single run in the second. His streak of not walking a batter has run to 54.1 innings. Doug Brocail and Heath Bell set things up for Trevor Hoffman who recoreded his 37th save of the season.

The win gives Maddux 12 on the season as his ERA fell to 3.68. It is also the 345th win of his career, just 9 behind Roger Clemens on the active list. Maddux projects to have four more starts and would need wins in three of them to record 15 wins for the 19th time in 20 seasons. His next projects to be against the San Fransisco Giants on Friday against Barry Zito (9-12, 4.46 ERA)
