Maddux defeats Rockies

The Padres erupted for 6 runs in the 2nd inning off of Jeff Francis and Greg Maddux pitched into the 6th as the Padres defeated the Rockies 8-0 Tuesday.

The win was the 8th of the season for Maddux, and the 341st of his career.

Glavine wins #300

Pardon the lateness of this post. I’ve been quite busy of late with weddings, Carrie becoming pregnant and work.

Tom Glavine picked up his 300th career win Sunday. Glavine did so against the Chicago Cubs. The win on August 5th was his 10th of the season for the first place Mets.

Padres lose to Kip Wells…

Greg Maddux allowed 2 runs in the first inning before pitching 5 more scoreless innings to take his 9th loss of the season.

Maddux had a dobule off of Cardinals pitcher Kip Wells but the Padres were unable to do anything with it or the other 5 hits.

Wells improved to 5-13 on the season. Maddux would need to win 8 of his final 10 starts to reach 15 wins this season. He is 7-9 with a 4.15 ERA on the season. He has been stuck on 340 wins since June despite pitching well thoughout July and into August.

The Padres are currently second in the NL West.

Maddux, Padres fall to Oswalt

As Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn celebrated the eve of their induction into Cooperstown, Greg Maddux and the San Diego Padres were playing game two in a series against the Astros.

The Padres scored an unearned run in the first but the Astros batteled back and struck for three in the bottom of the inning including a two run shot by Carlos Lee.

Maddux lasted 6 innings and after the first held the Astros in check. Pitching five strong innings to finish the game. Oswalt on the other hand last 7 innings and allowed just 3 hits. The Padre’ bats were no match.

Oswalt improved to his 10th win of the season. Maddux fell to 7-8 with a 4.20 ERA. Maddux finishes July 0-4.

Maddux stuck on 341

Despite leaving with a 5-2 lead after six innings Greg Maddux was denied his 341st win for the 5th time.

Milton Bradley hit a three run homer in the 5th to propell the Padres to the lead and Maddux allowed five hits and struck out two before departing.

The Padres held the lead until the 8th when reliever Scott Linebrink allowed four runs to score on homers from Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe. It was the sixth blown save for Linebrink and drops him to 3-3 on the season.

Taylor Buchholz picked up the win in relief for the Rockies, his fifth. Manny Corpas struck out two in the 9th to nail down his fifth save of the season.

Maddux leaves game due to hamstrain

Greg Maddux was forced to leave his start due to a tweaked hamstrain. Maddux is not expected to miss anytime due to the injury.

He lasted 5 innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 6 leavin with a 4-0 lead. The bullpen was unable to hold the lead though as Royce Ring served up a homer to Carlos Delgado and Scott Linebrink gave up one to David Wright.

The Padres did get the win as Linebrink was created with a w after the team scored in the bottom of the 8th. Trevor Hoffman picked up his 26th save of the season.

Maddux’s next start will come against the Colorado Rockies.

Maddux, Bullpen unable to stop Marlins in 7th

Greg Maddux was cruising along when the 7th arrived. The Padres had just taken a 4-2 lead and Maddux looked on the verge of his 5th win in 6 decisions.

Miguel Olivo singled to start the inning. After Todd Linden hit a deep fly ball for out number one, Maddux hung a pitch that Hanley Ramirez deposited into the stands. After allowing a single to Alfredo Amezaga and a double to Dan Uggla, Maddux was lifted Cla Meredith.

Meredith intentionally walked  Miguel Cabrera before Royce Ring came into replace him. Ring struck tou Mike Jacobs before throwing a wild pitch allowing Amezaga to score, intentionally walking Josh Willingham and then walking Jeremy Hermida giving the Marlins a 6-4 lead.

Marlins closer Kevin Gregg picked up his 16th save of the season by striking out the side in the 9th.

Maddux wins 340th

Pitching against a guy half his age, 41 year old Greg Maddux lasted 7 innings against the San Fransisco Giants to pick up the 340th win of his career.

San Fransisco was also the location of Maddux’s 300th win, and on June 27 his fourth win in five decisions also came at the hands of the Giants.

Maddux allowed five hits, a walk and one run while striking out four to move to 7-4 on the season. The lone run came on a Pedro Feliz. His ERA fell to 3.66, while his WHIP is a classic 1.23.

Maddux’s next outing figures to be against the Florida Marlins and Scott Olsen. (6-6, 4.93) The Marlins have been successful of late in Olsen’s starts winning 4 of his last 5.

Offense powers Maddux, Padres past Cubs

The San Diego Padres bats erupted for 11 runs against the Chicago Cubs and starter Rich Hill in a win Sunday.

Centerfielder Mike Cameron hit a two run homer in the first against Hill and later added another in the third. Adrian Gonzalez, Khaile Greene, and Rob Bowen also homered for the Padres.

Padres starter Greg Maddux scattered seven hits over 6 innings while striking out one. Maddux allowed three earned runs, leaving with a 9-3 lead and picking up his 6th win of the season.

Padres fall to Devil Rays

With help from two errors by Adrian Gonzalez the Tampa Bay Devil Rays rallied past the San Diego Padres.

Padres starter Greg Maddux pitched into the 7th before giving way to reliever Cla Meredith.

Maddux allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 6 1/3 innings. He allowed six hits, struck out four and walked three. Witha 5-3 record his ERA stands at 3.86 on the season.
