In the era of offensive power in baseball, he went 155-71 2.40 ERA from 1992 to 2000. In more than 5000 innings he walked 999. Maddux is the only pitcher in baseball to have 300+ wins, 5000+ innings pitched, 3000+ Ks and less than 1000 walks. I agree with your post. Baseball will lose a role model and a teacher for today's young pitchers. Maddux showed baseball that you don't have to be tall and throw a blistering 99 mph fastball to succeed.
