Tommy Maddox
Tommy Maddox was the first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 1992. Originally the Broncos had brought him in to replace John Elway. (Elway would keep playing till he lead the Broncos to back to back super bowls, retiring after 1998.) He started 4 games that season and played in 13 total posting solid numbers for a
new comer and backup QB. After then everything seemed to fall apart. Maddox would start 0 games in the next 3 seasons and was out of the NFL after 1995. So what do you do? Maddox started selling insurance in Texas. In 2000 he played in Vince McMahon’s ill fated XFL and won the league MVP. After the league ended Maddox got calls from around the league. He signed with the Steelers and played 5 games as a backup. In 2002 Steelers QB Kordell Stewart got off to a bad start and was replaced by “Touchdown” Tommy. Maddox would go on to lead the Steelers to the playoffs.
