Maddux faces the Giants for the first time as a Dodger. The game also features the first time a 700 homerun hitter and a 300 game winner face off. Barry Bonds goes 0-for-3 against Maddux. Maddux allows just two hits in the first inning before catching a ball off the bat of Bonds and turning it into a double play. Maddux then retires the next 22 batters in order. He’s lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 8th. The Dodgers go on to win in the 10th on a Russell Martin homerun.

August 19
Defeated the Giants for his 329th career win tying him for 10th all time with Steve Carlton. Maddux retired the first 10 batters of the game for a total of 32 consecutive. (counting his last start) The win was also the 11th of the season moving him to 11-11. Brad Hennsely was the starter for the Giants. He was also the losing pitcher in Maddux’s 300th win. Maddux recorded his second double of the year to lead off the second inning. He also was the first out of the inning when he flied out to drive in a run.

August 30
Maddux wins his 330th career game moving into sole possession of 10th on the all time list.

September 15
Maddux wins his 13th game of the season, the 18th time he has won 13 or more games. He takes a no hitter into the seventh before allowing a single ot Brian Giles finishing with 7 innings 1 hit and a strikeout and three walks.

September 30
Greg Maddux pitched on three days rest and defeats the San Francisco Giants for his 15th win of the season. The win is the 18th time Maddux has had 15 wins and the 17th time in 18 years. The win also puts the Dodgers into the playoffs.

November
Maddux wins his record tying 16th Gold Glove. He ties pitcher Jim Kaat and third basemen Brooks Robinson for the most in major league history.
